After shaking the horror world with his cult hit “Barbarian,” filmmaker Zach Cregger is back—and this time, he’s going bigger, bolder, and far more terrifying. In a new featurette, Cregger dives into his upcoming horror/thriller, Weapons, revealing just how ambitious his next project is compared to his last.
“I wanted to make something that felt a lot more ambitious,” says Cregger, who not only wrote and directed the film, but also co-produced and co-composed its haunting score. Weapons, according to him, is not only scarier than Barbarian—it’s also a more complex and gripping narrative.
Set in a quiet town thrown into chaos, the mystery of Weapons centers on a chilling event: all but one child from the same class disappear at the exact same time one night. The community is left grasping for answers in a story that blends psychological tension, supernatural dread, and visceral fear.
The film boasts an impressive cast including Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Benedict Wong, Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams, Cary Christopher, and Amy Madigan. The ensemble’s performances are previewed in the featurette, which offers a glimpse into the eerie world Cregger has created.
“Weapons is scarier than Barbarian, but it’s also a much more fascinating story,” Cregger explains. The director’s vision and the film’s mysterious premise promise an unforgettable cinematic experience when Weapons hits theaters this August 6.
