Whether you’re drawn to heroic last stands, morally complex missions, or the horrors of modern warfare, Lionsgate Play has powerful stories that go beyond bullets and bombs. These gripping titles explore the many faces of war – from the chaos during the Vietnam War to the ethical minefields of drone strikes, and the personal tragedies in post-invasion Iraq. Ready to see what courage looks like when the stakes couldn’t be higher? Press play on these titles on Lionsgate Play.

We Were Soldiers (2002)

Randall Wallace’s harrowing film plunges into the brutal reality of the Battle of Ia Drang in 1965, the first major clash between U.S. and North Vietnamese forces. The story centers on Lt. Col. Hal Moore (Mel Gibson), who unknowingly leads his 400-man battalion into a deadly ambush, facing a staggering 4,000 enemy soldiers. The film vividly portrays the American soldiers’ desperate three-day fight for survival against overwhelming odds while their wives wait in agony back home for news. We Were Soldiers is a powerful depiction of the sacrifices and realities of war on both sides.

Baghdad Central (2020)

Set in 2003 post-invasion Baghdad, the engrossing six-part series Baghdad Central follows Iraqi ex-policeman Muhsin al-Khafaji (Waleed Zuaiter), a man who lost everything to the war, including his family. When his estranged daughter Sawsan (Leem Lubany) goes missing and his youngest falls critically ill, Khafaji is forced into a dangerous alliance with American forces. There, he uncovers Sawsan’s hidden life as he desperately tries to secure a future for his remaining daughter amidst the horrors and personal devastation brought by the war’s aftermath.

Eye in the Sky (2015)

When a young girl steps into the crosshairs of a planned drone strike, the tension becomes unbearable. British Col. Katherine Powell (Helen Mirren) faces complex ethical and political dilemmas as her mission to neutralize Al-Shabaab terrorists in Nairobi is jeopardized by innocent civilians entering the kill zone. Miles away, commanders in safe control rooms wrestle with the profound moral and strategic implications, forced to make an impossible calculation: a terrorist’s life versus innocent lives. Eye in the Sky offers a glimpse into the international debate surrounding the realities of modern warfare.
