According to Wise, a global tech company for international money management, Vietnam ranks as the most expensive place for ATM withdrawals, with an average fee of 27.10%. South Korea follows at 5.80%, Thailand at 2.50%, and the US at 2.05%. These fees can quietly eat into your travel budget, leaving less for food, tours, and pasalubong.

As the Christmas break approaches, here’s how to stretch your peso on your next trip:

• Set a budget and stick to it. Use the 50-30-20 rule: 50% needs, 30% wants, 20% savings. Research costs early using vloggers and travel forums.
• Automate your savings. Set monthly transfers to a separate account. Save P3,000 a month to build a P36,000 fund in a year.
• Book practical stays. Pick hostels or apartments with kitchens to save on meals. Book early for better deals.
• Avoid transaction fees. Pay in local currency instead of pesos to dodge hidden conversion costs.
