South Korean indie rock band SE SO NEON has released their debut album ‘NOW’, led by songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Soyoon Hwang. Known for her So!YoON! solo project, Soyoon blends lo-fi, vintage tones with influences from blues, psychedelic rock, new wave, and synth pop.
The title track “NOW” stands out as a bilingual slow-burn, shifting between Korean and English, with atmospheric vocals and overdriven guitar riffs. The song’s refrain, “what should I do now,” captures the album’s theme of vulnerability and reflection.
After her 2023 solo album ‘Episode1: Love’, Soyoon traveled to New York City to work on SE SO NEON’s new music. The change in environment reignited her creativity and inspired her to focus on living in the present. “That’s why the album title is ‘NOW’,” she shared. “I felt hope again.”
Guitar-driven and rooted in Soyoon’s love for nature, ‘NOW’ delivers an unpredictable yet organic sound. Sung primarily in Korean, it bridges language barriers through emotion and atmosphere.
