PLDT and Smart are calling on the youth to lead in protecting the environment through the Xtrash Challenge School Partnership Program. In collaboration with the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP), the program supports the Department of Environment and Natural Resources’ advocacy for climate action.
The initiative brought students from Nemesio I. Yabut and Maximo Estrella Senior High Schools in Makati City together for sessions on waste management and disaster preparedness. Recycling bins were also turned over to the schools during PLDT and Smart’s Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) Week to encourage sustainable practices.
Kristine G. Gonzalez – Catague, Head for Environment, Health and Safety at PLDT and Smart, said the program equips students with knowledge to make better decisions for the environment. Michael Lorenzana, Principal of Maximo Estrella SHS, emphasized the importance of shared responsibility in preserving resources for future generations. Fernan Placino, Assistant Principal II at Nemesio I. Yabut SHS, urged students to be climate aware and prepared to lead their communities in times of disaster.
The Xtrash Challenge reflects PLDT and Smart’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 13: Climate Action. By empowering the youth, the companies aim to strengthen climate resilience and promote sustainable communities nationwide.
