Over 200 small business owners across the Visayas are now using AI tools to strengthen their enterprises, thanks to PLDT Enterprise and Smart Communications’ Ebiznovation programs in partnership with DTI and other tech companies.
One of them is Dino Mirafuentes, a 28-year-old farmer from Ormoc City. He uses generative AI to refine his social media posts and design product labels for his organic farm. “With AI tools, I’m more confident in my output,” he shared.
The shift is supported by programs like the Shop and Ship Caravan in Cebu and the Tech Connect: MSME Power Up training in Leyte and Southern Leyte. These sessions taught entrepreneurs how to use AI for marketing, integrate secure digital payments, and improve cybersecurity practices.
Milody Dimansillo-Alcuitas, a handcrafted goods entrepreneur from Carcar City, said the workshops gave her practical strategies for promoting her products online. Over 90 MSMEs joined the Cebu caravan while more than 100 participated in Leyte and Southern Leyte.
This movement is building a ripple effect. Entrepreneurs who gain skills through AI training are becoming advocates in their own communities, sharing knowledge and encouraging others to embrace digital tools.
By combining AI literacy, e-commerce skills, and financial technology adoption, PLDT and Smart’s initiatives are helping small businesses compete in today’s digital economy. These efforts also contribute to UN Sustainable Development Goal No. 8 on Decent Work and Economic Growth by creating more sustainable livelihoods.
