Unified Transport Operations League (UTOL), a new Filipino-owned ride-hailing app, aims to provide more affordable rides by offering lower surge rates. Launched on Wednesday, UTOL operates in Quezon City, Makati, Parañaque, and Alabang with plans to cover the entire Metro Manila by June and nearby provinces shortly after.
UTOL General Manager Rosalie Maningas stated that 600 drivers have already enrolled. The company is encouraging jeepney drivers, affected by the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization program, to join UTOL for job opportunities.
“There is a significant transport shortage due to high passenger demand,” said CEO Roland Maningas, emphasizing the need for more drivers.
UTOL will also shoulder discounts for senior citizens, students, and persons with disabilities, unlike other services that deduct these from drivers’ earnings. Additionally, the app features a ‘help button’ for emergency assistance to ensure passenger and driver safety.
