Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. reprise their iconic roles as Julie James and Ray Bronson in the latest chapter of the cult-favorite horror franchise I Know What You Did Last Summer. This long-awaited return brings fans back to the eerie aftermath of the 1997 Southport Massacre — now, 27 years later, with new victims, a familiar killer, and unresolved trauma still lingering.
Directed and written by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, the film is both a nostalgic revival and a fresh reimagining. “It was important to me to make sure that both of their stories felt like a continuation,” Robinson explains. “Who would they become, and how will that inform how they advise and help this younger group?”
Julie, now a psychology professor, finds herself mentoring a new generation of terrorized teens — while Ray, her ex-husband and bar owner, gets pulled back into the shadows of their haunted past. Their reunion is fueled by a desire to stop the new killings and preserve whatever future remains for the next victims.
Hewitt praises Robinson’s deep passion for the franchise. “She loves Julie and Ray, the story, and even the Fisherman,” she shares. “So, all that love has gone into this new version, and you can see it and you can feel it.” Prinze Jr. adds, “Jenn wasn’t going to throw away the past. She treats it with the respect it deserves.”
I Know What You Did Last Summer hits Philippine cinemas on July 30. It’s more than a slasher sequel — it’s a legacy reawakened.
