AirAsia Philippines has reinforced its no vaping and smoking policy onboard all flights after recording 10 violations from January to August 2025. Despite clear advisories on boarding passes, pre-flight announcements, and illuminated cabin signage, several guests were caught vaping mid-flight, either in lavatories triggering smoke detectors or openly in their seats.
The airline reminds passengers that vaping and smoking are prohibited under Republic Act No. 9211 (Tobacco Regulation Act) and Republic Act No. 11900 (Vape Regulation Act). Violators face immediate referral to airport police, blotter entry, fines up to ₱5,000, possible charges under RA 9497 if safety is compromised, and administrative penalties, including a lifetime flight ban.
AirAsia Philippines Head of Communications and Corporate Affairs, First Officer Steve F. Dailisan, stressed that passenger cooperation is key to maintaining safety. He noted that triggering smoke detectors causes panic, operational disruption, and potential safety hazards from malfunctioning vape devices.
To deter violations, AirAsia keeps visible no-smoking reminders from gate to cabin and equips lavatories with tamper-proof smoke detectors. Cabin crew maintain vigilant monitoring to act on any infractions promptly.
