The excitement was undeniable on September 6, 2025, as SM City Marikina’s Ground Level turned into a stage for young word masters. More than 180 students from public and private schools in Marikina joined the SM Super Spelling Bee Elimination Round, eager to showcase their spelling skills and love for words.
Open to Grades 5 and 6 students aged 10 to 12, the competition gathered bright learners ready to take on the challenge before an energetic crowd of parents, teachers, and mallgoers. After several tough rounds, one young speller emerged as champion: Zarex Celis of Sta. Elena Elementary School. His win secured his spot in the grand finals at SM Mall of Asia, where he will proudly represent both his school and SM City Marikina.
Now on its second year, the SM Super Spelling Bee has expanded to 40 SM Supermalls nationwide. It has become a platform for young learners to shine, celebrate the joy of learning, and boost their confidence. This year’s run is made even more meaningful as it coincides with SM Supermalls’ 40th anniversary, reinforcing its mission to create spaces where families shop, dine, learn, and connect.
The event was supported by National Book Store, National University, Power Mac Center, and Jollibee. These partners share SM’s vision of nurturing creativity, learning, and self-confidence among today’s youth.
Congratulations to Zarex Celis on this well-deserved win. The whole Marikina community is cheering him on as he advances to the next round of the SM Super Spelling Bee.
