“Weapons,” the new horror/thriller from “Barbarian” director Zach Cregger, is earning critical praise ahead of its August 6 release in cinemas and IMAX. The film currently holds a 100% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Starring Josh Brolin, Julia Garner and Alden Ehrenreich, “Weapons” follows a disturbing mass disappearance. All but one child from the same class vanish on the same night. As the mystery unfolds, the small-town community is left searching for answers.
IGN called it “an absolutely delicious, scary-yet-funny blockbuster.” The site praised its time-scrambling chapters and gripping finale. SlashFilm described it as “one of the best horror movies of the year.” AwardsWatch noted its “chilling masterclass in suspense.” CinemaBlend gave it five stars and called it “perfect and a must-see.”
Cregger said the film’s unpredictability is intentional. “It’s so rare to watch a movie and not know where it’s going. I feel confident that’s the case with ‘Weapons,’” he said.
“Weapons” also features Austin Abrams, Cary Christopher, Benedict Wong and Amy Madigan.
The film opens August 6 exclusively in cinemas and IMAX.
