Smart Communications, Inc. is taking scam awareness directly to the communities that need it most by educating load retailers in Laguna and Cavite through its CX Caravan initiative.

Load retailers are among the first points of contact for customers purchasing load, making payments, and managing SIM-related transactions. Because of their role in daily customer interactions, they are increasingly becoming targets of fraudsters who use deception and social engineering tactics to gain access to sensitive information.

Recognizing these risks, Smart brought its SCAMpaign directly to retailers through the CX Caravan, providing practical and actionable knowledge on how to identify and avoid scams.

The sessions focused on real-life fraud scenarios commonly encountered by retailers, including OTP phishing, fake proof-of-payment schemes, identity misuse, and other forms of social engineering. Participants learned how to identify warning signs, verify transactions properly, and avoid actions that could compromise customer security.

“Madalas kaming target ng scam dahil sa dami ng transaksyon na hinahawakan namin araw-araw. Malaking tulong na dinadala mismo sa amin ang ganitong impormasyon dahil hindi naman kami laging may oras para mag-scroll sa Facebook o magbasa online,” shared Nelson, a Smart retailer from Cavite.

Beyond cyber awareness, the CX Caravan also served as an on-ground support platform where retailers could raise concerns, seek assistance, and access Smart services more conveniently.

The initiative forms part of Smart Cares, the company’s broader customer education and community engagement program, and supports the PLDT Group’s #BeCyberSmart campaign.

Bringing Cyber Awareness Closer to Communities

As scams become increasingly sophisticated, education remains one of the strongest forms of protection. By bringing fraud awareness directly to retailers instead of relying solely on digital advisories, Smart recognizes the realities faced by business owners who spend long hours serving customers and may have limited opportunities to consume online educational content.

Load retailers play a critical role in the country’s digital ecosystem. Equipping them with practical knowledge not only helps protect their businesses but also contributes to creating safer transactions for the communities they serve.

Looking Ahead

The CX Caravan has previously engaged other sectors, including medical professionals, retirees, and teachers. By continuing to expand these on-ground initiatives, Smart aims to make cyber awareness more accessible, practical, and relevant to Filipinos from different walks of life.

As digital services become increasingly integrated into everyday transactions, empowering communities with knowledge may prove to be one of the most effective ways to strengthen cybersecurity and build greater trust in the digital economy.
