SM Supermalls takes the lead this July in commemorating National Disaster Resilience Month with a robust lineup of capacity-building activities that highlight lifesaving skills and multi-sectoral collaboration. Aligned with the national theme “KUMIKILOS Para sa Kahandaan, Kaligtasan at Katatagan,” the initiative reinforces SM’s longstanding commitment to disaster preparedness and community resilience.
The celebration began with a Hands-Only CPR training session at SM City Manila, educating security personnel, janitors, and tenant employees on emergency response techniques. The campaign, dubbed CPR: Corporate Preparedness and Resilience, is part of the Department of Health’s drive to boost public awareness on responding to cardiac emergencies. SM San Lazaro will host the next training leg on July 25.
According to SM Supermalls Vice President Engr. Liza B. Silerio, “Emergencies can happen anywhere, and empowering everyday heroes with CPR skills can make the difference between life and death.”
To further broaden its impact, SM partnered with ARISE Philippines for a webinar series on basic non-life insurance—educating MSMEs on risk transfer mechanisms—and co-hosted the Ready, Set, Resilient: Youth DRR Training in Pasig City. This workshop, led by the local DRRM office and youth development council, equipped students with disaster risk reduction strategies and leadership skills.
The advocacy extended into environmental sustainability through the Waste Management Webinar: Journey Towards a Waste-Free Future, co-organized with SM GUUN Environmental Company and ARISE Philippines. Additionally, SM supported DILG’s Dagyaw Town Hall Meeting themed “BaBaYi,” promoting women’s economic empowerment through sustainable entrepreneurship.
Upcoming highlights include an Incident Command System (ICS) training at SM Mall of Asia on July 28 and a nationwide Fire Square Roadshow on July 31 in partnership with the Bureau of Fire Protection. These events will showcase fire extinguishment drills, rappelling demos, and first aid tutorials, making emergency preparedness both accessible and interactive for mallgoers.
As SM Supermalls celebrates 40 Super Years, it continues to champion sustainability, safety, and resilience, setting the standard for integrated disaster readiness and community care in all 88 of its Philippine malls.
