Educator training nationwide gains ground with Security Bank Foundation and DepEd partnership
The Department of Education (DepEd), Security Bank Foundation, Inc. (SBFI), and Security Bank Corporation have renewed their commitment to strengthen educator training through the expansion of SBFI’s Mentoring Future Leaders for Nation-Building program.
The three-year initiative, now in its third year, focuses on developing principals as leaders and problem solvers, while equipping teachers with modern methods in English, Math, and Science instruction, student assessment, and community engagement.
Under the new agreement, DepEd will endorse qualified applicants, grant learning and development credits, monitor implementation of action plans, and provide data to assess program outcomes.
Education Secretary Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara recognized the bank’s long-term partnership. He said Security Bank’s efforts continue to create evidence of change across schools, families, and communities.
The program was developed with Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle Philippines, and global partners The HEAD Foundation in Singapore and the University of Bristol in the United Kingdom.
SBFI Chairman Rafael F. Simpao, Jr. highlighted that sustainable transformation in education depends on empowered principals and teachers, not just on physical infrastructure.
Since its launch, the program has trained 167 educators, many of whom serve in SBFI’s beneficiary schools. The initiative complements SBFI’s Build a School, Build a Nation classroom donation program, extending its impact from infrastructure to long-term capacity building.
