A major highlight of the celebration was the AngelNet Summit, now in its third year, which placed the spotlight on protecting the youth in the digital space. Maricor Alvarez-Adriano led an engaging session with 150 students, underscoring the importance of online vigilance and safety, particularly against scams and Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC). The summit became a powerful platform for inter-agency collaboration, with representatives from DICT, DepEd, DOJ, Globe, PLDT, UNICEF, and TikTok coming together to champion digital safety. Moreover, the summit emphasized the collective responsibility of both public and private sectors in creating a safer online environment for the next generation. In his address, PBGen Bernard R. Yang, acting director of the PNP-ACG, underscored the importance of empowering the community, especially the youth, to adapt to the ever-evolving nature of cyber threats. “As we mark 12 years of service, we reaffirm our commitment to innovative strategies, stronger partnerships, and shared responsibility in creating a cyber-resilient environment,” he said.
Meanwhile, PCOL Jay Guillermo, chief of the Cyber Response Unit of the PNP-ACG, highlighted the progress made in leveraging advanced technologies and collaborations to preempt and address online offenses. He emphasized the importance of capacity-building to ensure the law enforcement agency is equipped with the skills and technology to handle increasingly sophisticated cybercrime tactics.
