What happens when 17 kids vanish without a trace?
From Zach Cregger, the director of the 2022 cult hit “Barbarian,” comes Weapons, a horror-thriller arriving in cinemas and IMAX on August 6. Set in the town of Maybrook, the story unfolds in a chilling mystery after a whole classroom of elementary students disappears, leaving only one behind.
Cregger tells the story in sharply focused chapters, each centered around a different character’s perspective. Viewers are placed inside each character’s experience, thanks to cinematographer Larkin Seiple’s camera work. For young Alex, played by Cary Christopher, the lens mirrors his third-grader view.
The cast is led by Josh Brolin as Archer, a desperate father searching for his missing son. Julia Garner plays Miss Gandy, the teacher of the missing class, whose personal and professional life unravels as she investigates. Alden Ehrenreich appears as Paul, a police officer pulled into the mystery while facing his own struggles.
Cary Christopher plays Alex, the only student left behind. His unique perspective becomes central to the film. Benedict Wong portrays Marcus, the school principal torn between duty and friendship. Amy Madigan and Austin Abrams round out the ensemble cast.
Weapons combines horror, suspense and character drama. With its shifting structure and emotional core, the film keeps audiences guessing every 20 minutes, offering more than just scares.
