Mapúa Graduate Tops Civil Engineering Board Exam with 94.10% Rating

Mapúa University graduate Marc Zendrijk Valdez Pasumbal has emerged as the topnotcher of the latest Civil Engineering Licensure Examination, earning the highest rating of 94.10 percent.

The achievement further strengthens Mapúa University’s reputation as one of the country’s leading institutions for engineering and technological education, producing highly competent graduates who continue to excel in national licensure examinations.

Pasumbal joins the ranks of recent Mapúa Civil Engineering topnotchers, following Engr. Miquel Lorrenzo Caballero Rubia, who placed seventh overall in the April 2025 board exam, and Engr. Justine S. Ahammed, who ranked third overall in the November 2025 licensure exam.

Dr. Gilford Estores, dean of the School of Civil, Environmental, and Geological Engineering, said the university continues to strengthen its academic support systems through curriculum alignment, faculty mentoring, and structured programs aimed at improving student learning and board exam readiness.

“The university administers exit and correlation examinations before students graduate to assess learning outcomes and licensure examination readiness. After graduation, students continue to receive structured institutional support through organized review sessions, access to review materials, and formal send-off activities to prepare them for the boards,” Estores said.

For his part, Pasumbal shared that he followed a structured eight-month review strategy to prepare for the licensure exam. The first three months began during his final school term, during which he focused on creating comprehensive and personalized review notes while also allowing time for rest. The remaining five months were dedicated to intensive review.

“I had to curb social media usage, allocating it only during breaks,” Pasumbal shared.

Now a licensed civil engineer, Pasumbal is looking to pursue a career in construction management or structural engineering. He is also applying as a part-time lecturer as a way of giving back to his alma mater.

He encouraged future board exam takers to embrace the hard work required in preparing for the licensure examination, while also making time to rest and remain focused throughout the journey.
