Liam Neeson is officially funny.
The Naked Gun reboot, starring Neeson as Lt. Frank Drebin Jr., is certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with an 89% critics score. Audiences are loving it too, with a 75% Popcornmeter rating and an A- from CinemaScore.
Directed by Akiva Schaffer and produced by Seth MacFarlane, the film runs just 85 minutes but delivers fast, sharp laughs. Neeson plays the son of the original Frank Drebin, made iconic by Leslie Nielsen. This time, he’s leading Police Squad to save the world, armed with pure deadpan and a wildly chaotic team.
Pamela Anderson is winning praise for her role as Beth Davenport. Critics highlight her comic timing and effortless delivery. The Hollywood Reporter called her presence “buoyant” and “fresh.”
RogerEbert.com says Neeson’s shift from serious roles to straight-faced comedy is what keeps the film consistently funny. Vulture calls it “fall-out-of-your-seat” hilarious. Deadline says it’s exactly what moviegoers need right now.
The Naked Gun opens only in cinemas on August 13.
