Absurdist comedy is back with a vengeance as The Naked Gun makes its way to the big screen this August 13, with none other than Liam Neeson stepping into the hilariously oversized shoes of Lt. Frank Drebin Jr.
Fans of the original 1988 slapstick classic will be thrilled as producer Seth MacFarlane (Family Guy, Ted) and director Akiva Schaffer (SNL, Popstar) revive the iconic Police Squad universe. The new film pays homage to the late Leslie Nielsen’s timeless character while launching a fresh era of chaotic crime-fighting.
In a newly released first look featurette, MacFarlane shares, “Growing up, I loved The Naked Gun. This kind of broad, absurdist comedy would transcend all age groups.” He adds that audiences today are still craving that kind of silliness.
Joining Neeson is a riotous cast including Pamela Anderson, Paul Walter Hauser, CCH Pounder, Kevin Durand, Cody Rhodes, Liza Koshy, Eddie Yu, and Danny Huston. Neeson, known for his action roles, steps into comedic territory while still wielding his “particular set of skills” — this time for laughs, not vengeance.
