Unified Tennis Philippines (UTP) President Jean Henri Lhuillier praised the Philippine Davis Cup Team after its commanding 3-0 sweep of Pacific Oceania in the opening round of the 2025 Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Group IV tournament in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The team—composed of Cebuana Lhuillier-backed standouts AJ Lim, Niño Alcantara, and Ruben Gonzales—showed unwavering resolve and skill, setting a powerful tone for the tournament and putting the Philippines in prime position to clinch one of two promotion slots to Group III.
“We’re thrilled with the strong and decisive win of AJ Lim, as well as the excellent performance of Niño and Ruben in the doubles,” said Lhuillier, a longtime tennis patron who also heads Unified Tennis Philippines and formerly served as the team’s manager. “With their strong showing and depth across the roster, I believe the Philippines will emerge victorious until the end.”
AJ Lim, a former junior world No. 12 and a regular Davis Cup competitor, delivered the first point for the Philippines with a confident 7-5, 6-1 win over Nickolas Ngodrela. Known for his court intelligence and baseline strength, Lim continues to anchor the country’s singles campaign.
The dynamic duo of Alcantara and Gonzales secured the clean sweep by overpowering Brett Baudinet and Maka Ofati, 7-5, 6-2. Alcantara, renowned for winning the 2009 Australian Open Boys’ Doubles title—the first ever by a Filipino—partnered seamlessly with Gonzales, a consistent international performer and ATP Challenger Tour mainstay.
Jean Henri Lhuillier, a fervent advocate for tennis development in the Philippines, reaffirmed his commitment to nurturing both grassroots talent and elite athletes through Cebuana Lhuillier and UTP.
“These results validate our investment in Filipino talent and the enduring spirit of our tennis ambassadors,” Lhuillier shared. “They are not only winning matches—they are inspiring a new generation of athletes.”
With momentum on their side, the Philippine team now eyes continued dominance in the tournament, striving to secure a return to Group III and uphold the country’s proud tennis legacy.
