A new learning space has opened for young Filipino readers as Jean Henri Lhuillier, through the Consulate General of the Republic of San Marino–Philippines, joined LINKS Philippines in launching the 30th Hooked on Books library in Manila.

The JHL-RSM Library was unveiled at Graciano Lopez Jaena Elementary School in Sampaloc, Manila, marking a milestone for the Hooked on Books program and its mission to expand access to literacy and learning opportunities.

The initiative brings together partners from education, community development, design, publishing, and corporate volunteerism with one shared goal: to help children discover the power of reading.

A Milestone for Literacy

The JHL-RSM Library represents the shared commitment of Jean Henri Lhuillier, the Consulate General of the Republic of San Marino–Philippines, and LINKS Philippines to create more spaces where Filipino children can read, learn, imagine, and grow.

As the 30th installation of the Hooked on Books program, the library is designed to nurture curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, and a deeper appreciation for books.

For students, the space offers more than shelves and reading materials. It provides a safe and welcoming environment where learning can feel inspiring and accessible.

Education as an Investment in the Future

Lhuillier said education remains one of the most powerful investments that can be made for the next generation.

“This library is more than just a milestone—it is about creating opportunities to transform lives through the power of reading,” he said.

He added that giving children access to knowledge, imagination, and a safe space to learn also gives them the confidence to dream bigger and build a better future.

As Honorary Consul of the Republic of San Marino to the Philippines, Lhuillier has supported initiatives that connect education, culture, and community development.

Partners Working Toward One Goal

The launch gathered stakeholders from the education sector and partner organizations committed to expanding literacy among Filipino learners.

The initiative was supported by the City Government of Manila under the leadership of Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso.

Among those present were Maria Consuelo Doble, President of LINKS Philippines; Dr. Sheryll T. Gayola, Manila City Schools Division Superintendent; and Jinabelle Prieto, Principal of Graciano Lopez Jaena Elementary School.

Their presence underscored the collective effort behind sustaining the Hooked on Books mission and extending its impact to more communities.

Built Through Collaboration and Volunteerism

The JHL-RSM Library was made possible through the dedication of Cebuana Lhuillier employee-volunteers and support from partners including Boysen, Tosot, Ilaw Atbp., Bookmark, UP GEOP, and Archispace Design Inc.

Each partner contributed to shaping the library, from design and development to creating a more vibrant and conducive learning space.

The result is a library built not only with materials and books, but also with shared purpose.

Opening More Doors for Young Learners

With the launch of the JHL-RSM Library, the Hooked on Books program reaches an important milestone.

More importantly, it reinforces a simple truth: when children have access to books, supportive spaces, and communities that believe in them, they gain more chances to imagine new possibilities for their future.

As the program continues, Jean Henri Lhuillier, the San Marino Consulate, and LINKS Philippines reaffirm their commitment to expanding access to education and nurturing lifelong learning among Filipino children.

One library may begin with a room. But for every child who enters, it can open a much bigger world.
