Converge ICT Solutions Inc., a leading broadband and technology provider in the Philippines, continues to champion responsible digital habits among the youth through its flagship program, Project PIGLET (Privacy Integration through Guided Learning of Emerging Technologies).
In its latest session held in Malibay, Pasay City, Converge brought the Project PIGLET advocacy to Timoteo Paez Elementary School, engaging 80 Grade 6 students and 20 parents in a dynamic and educational session on online privacy and safety.
The initiative is led by the Converge Corporate Governance and Data Privacy (CGDP) Group. According to Converge Data Protection Officer Atty. Laurice Esteban-Tuason, “Artificial intelligence is an incredible tool, but it can also be misused, leading to threats like OSAEC (online sexual abuse and exploitation of children). Project PIGLET aims to help kids and parents understand both the power and the pitfalls of technology.”
Atty. Janine Villabeto-Solete, Converge Data Privacy Manager, emphasized that children remain the most vulnerable to the dangers of the digital world. “The internet is essential, especially after the pandemic, but so are digital safeguards. That’s why Project PIGLET focuses on educating children directly,” she shared.
Through interactive storytelling led by Compliance Officer for Privacy Larry Caduada, students learned how to navigate the internet safely with the help of a character named ‘Captain Conrad’ who guards young users—the ‘Astro Friends’—against harmful online threats.
Principal Jeanne Rejuso of Timoteo Paez Elementary lauded the initiative, saying, “We’re thankful to Converge for helping our students understand digital safety through a medium they can relate to.”
In recognition of its impact, Project PIGLET was recently named a finalist in the National Privacy Commission’s Privacy Initiative of the Year during Privacy Awareness Week this June.
Project PIGLET’s Pasay run was among several events staged by Converge from July 14–25 in observance of Privacy Awareness Week. These included executive messages reaffirming data privacy commitment, interactive games, food carts, and a fun photo booth setup for employees.
With Project PIGLET, Converge continues its push for responsible digital habits among the youth, ensuring that students and families are better equipped to face the challenges of the online world.
