Chinese American Bear reimagine Taylor Swift’s hit with Mandarin lyrics ahead of US shows
Chinese American Bear have released their newest single, a Mandarin cover of Taylor Swift’s hit “Blank Space (空白格).” The track arrives just before their 2025 US tour and highlights the duo’s unique ability to reinterpret global pop hits with their own artistry.
For Anne, the cover is deeply personal. “I’ve been a Swifty since her first hit ‘Our Song,’ and have followed her career ever since. We’re the same age, so I feel like we grew up together. ‘1989’ is my favorite album so far. When that album came out, it was a special time in my life because we lived in Tribeca during the same time that Taylor first moved into her Tribeca apartment. So it felt like we were experiencing New York together, even though our lives and living spaces couldn’t have been more different. Blank Space is my favorite song from the ‘1989’ album, so when we thought about doing another cover, this was at the top of my list. Love you Taylor!”
Bryce also reflected on why the song was a natural choice. “I became a fan of Taylor Swift during ‘1989,’ so this was a good song for us to work on together. Anne’s been waiting patiently. I love the production of ‘1989.’ The melodies are infectious, it really feels like a pop gold standard. The songs are fun, catchy, and layered. I find pop music like this interesting from an arrangement point of view. The chord voicings are so carefully chosen. I was nervous about making a cover version of this song, but it was fun to create and stretched us both.”
The single’s release coincides with the announcement of their upcoming live shows. Fans can catch Chinese American Bear at these dates:
- October 28 – Brooklyn, Elsewhere
- November 8 – Seattle, Cloudbreak Festival
- November 13 – Miami, Miami Festival @ Zeyzey
With their cover of “Blank Space (空白格)” and fresh tour dates, Chinese American Bear continue to connect with fans while honoring their love for pop music.
