Chevron Invests $3.1 Million to Open Lapu-Lapu Terminal to Domestic and International Fuel Trade

Chevron’s upgraded Lapu-Lapu Terminal in Cebu, showing the docking of its first international import vessel—marking the terminal’s opening to domestic and international fuel trade following Chevron’s $3.1 million investment.

Chevron’s global headquarters has invested $3.1 million to upgrade its terminal in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, enabling it to receive import vessels and load domestic vessels. The investment increased the terminal’s storage capacity to 150,000 barrels—equivalent to approximately 24 million liters—unlocking an estimated $1 million in annual value.

The Lapu-Lapu terminal recently received its first import vessel, the MT CHANG HANG FEI YUE Voy No. 2518, loaded with products from South Korea. Through careful planning and close collaboration with government agencies, Chevron’s on-ground team ensured the safe and successful reception, marking a key milestone in opening the terminal to international fuel trade.

Strategically located in a highly urbanized, fast-growing city, the Lapu-Lapu terminal serves as Chevron’s gateway to Central Visayas, supporting fuel supply to nearby cities and municipalities driven by manufacturing, transportation, and tourism growth. The terminal’s location also opens new opportunities for interested retailers and business partners by ensuring more reliable fuel supply.

This update comes nearly a year after Chevron Philippines Inc. (CPI) signed mutually beneficial lease agreements with Batangas Land Company, Inc. (BLC) for the lease of its properties in major cities around the Philippines. Aside from the Lapu-Lapu terminal, CPI renewed its lease in San Pascual, Batangas; San Fernando (Poro), La Union; and Sasa, Davao City. Chevron, which markets the Caltex brand of fuels and lubricants, also committed funding to these terminals’ energy infrastructure to maintain the safety and effectiveness of their operations.

CPI General Manager and Country Chairman Pongtorn “Bon” Tangmanuswong said, “Our investment in the Lapu-Lapu terminal is a sign that Chevron is here to stay and will continue to boost the capacity of our other local terminals. We want to move more safe quality Caltex fuels around the country. This is part of our wider mission of ensuring that all corners of the Philippines have access to a reliable fuel and energy source.”

For over a century, Chevron has built a reputation grounded in credibility and accessibility through its expansive network of 600+ service stations, terminals, and other supply points. Securing energy infrastructure investments, it ensures that its high-quality, reliable fuel and energy services remain within reach for Filipinos nationwide.
