The ASEAN Foundation has chosen communications consultancy Vero as its partner for the AI Ready ASEAN program, a regional effort to expand AI literacy across Southeast Asia.
Launched in 2024 with a USD 5 million grant from Google.org, AI Ready ASEAN will run for 2.5 years. The program follows five phases: training of trainers, in-depth AI education, a regional awareness campaign, national and regional convenings, and research on AI across ASEAN. An e-learning platform has already been launched to provide accessible and sustainable learning tools.
The initiative targets 5.5 million people, including youth, educators, parents, and underserved groups. Around 800,000 will receive more advanced training.
Vero will manage media engagement, craft communication strategies, and raise the program’s visibility across ASEAN.
Dr. Piti Srisangnam, Executive Director of the ASEAN Foundation, said the partnership with Vero is key to ensuring citizens are prepared to thrive in an AI-driven economy. Vero’s Executive Account Director, Diah Andrini Dewi, highlighted that AI literacy and equitable adoption are essential as AI continues to reshape society.
Vero has already supported the program’s first convention in February, securing coverage from top publications across six ASEAN countries.
AI Ready ASEAN underscores responsible AI use, with principles of ethics, fairness, transparency, and inclusion at its core. It aligns with the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 and the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement, strengthening the region’s readiness to harness AI for sustainable growth.
