AI for All: Teachers gear up for the future of learning with PLDT and Smart

Filipino teachers are now discovering how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can make teaching smarter, simpler, and more impactful.

Through the “AI for All” bootcamp, the PLDT Group and the Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division of Nueva Ecija are helping educators harness digital tools that can help enhance lessons plans and streamline classroom management, among other benefits.

Held in celebration of National Teachers’ Month, the program trained teachers from across the province and livestreamed the sessions to Cagayan de Oro, extending the reach of technology-enabled learning to Mindanao.

“Our teachers need to grow with the evolving education landscape. Learning about technologies like AI helps them reimagine how they teach and manage their classes,” said Dr. Danilo M. Jacoba, Assistant Schools Division Superintendent at DepEd Nueva Ecija. “It’s also about using smart tools to simplify tasks, make better use of data, and create more personalized learning activities.”

The course offered teachers a hands-on experience with AI-powered applications that can create more dynamic lessons, provide instant feedback, analyze data for insights, and automate routine administrative tasks.

“AI is especially helpful in preparing lesson plans for instructors who are not Education graduates like me,” shared Rose Mary Dominique F. Ganiban, a teacher at Muñoz National High School DepEd Science City of Muñoz. “I just entered the upcoming topics, and it quickly helped me create my daily lesson logs for the next week.”

Allan H. Guibone, a Grade 4 teacher at Bugo Central School in Cagayan de Oro, also discovered how AI can identify learning gaps early. “AI can aid in generating initial feedback on different competencies that I can easily share with my students. This allows me to focus on nurturing higher-order thinking skills,” he said.

The workshop also walked teachers through using prompts to generate visual presentations. “It was my first time to use generative AI to develop content for my presentation, then upload it to another AI-powered tool to produce a deck that’s polished and visually appealing,” added Berlin D. Ramos, a Grade 12 teacher at Talavera Senior High School in Nueva Ecija.

“As a technology champion, the PLDT Group leverages digital innovations to improve the lives of Filipinos—this time, in the education sector,” said Stephanie V. Orlino, AVP and Head of Stakeholder Engagement at PLDT and Smart. “By upskilling our teachers, we empower them to explore new ways to elevate the learning experience.”

The AI for All initiative is part of PLDT and Smart’s broader education programs aligned with DepEd’s key priorities under Secretary Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara, particularly in advancing teacher professional development and integrating digital innovations into classroom strategies.

PLDT and Smart continue to collaborate with partners nationwide to promote inclusive and equitable quality education. These efforts form part of the PLDT Group’s commitment to help the country achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) No. 4: Quality Education, with a strong focus on digital literacy.
