Silliman University Students Shine at Iis with Digital Safety Tech

Students present digital safety innovation at premier IT-BPM summit
Silliman University students showed the power of youth innovation at the 17th International IT-BPM Summit (IIS) on September 23–24, 2025, at the Okada Grand Ballroom. Their project proved that the next wave of digital solutions in the Philippines is already here.
Team Merge Conflict, winners of the July 2025 Can You HackIT? competition, presented their digital safety tool before nearly 1,000 IT-BPM leaders. The solution helps parents monitor their children’s screens and detect exposure to harmful content, answering one of the biggest concerns in modern digital life.
The team is composed of Gianne Guenter S. Gaudan, Jon Patric A. Garganian, Jhana P. Trinidad, Karl Joseph M. Gaitera, and John Stanley T. Altonaga, with guidance from Prof. Joy M. Dy. Their segment was introduced by Ambe Tierro of Accenture Philippines and Sanjiv Gupta of IBM Philippines, co-leads of IBPAP’s Tech and AI Council.
IBPAP President and CEO Jack Madrid praised the group, saying their win is more than just a competition milestone. “They sparked momentum towards building the country’s startup ecosystem,” he said.
IBPAP Director of Research and Innovation Carole Gaffud added that the students are already solving real-world problems, while Branding and PR Head Jill Quiniquini Peduca highlighted the industry’s commitment to nurturing bold startup ideas from the ground up.
From Dumaguete to Cebu to the country’s biggest IT-BPM summit, Team Merge Conflict proved that digital innovation thrives far beyond the capital. Their work sets a new bar for the role of youth in shaping safer and smarter tech for families.
