The Minions are heading to the big screen again, this time with monsters, movie-making chaos, and a trip to 1920s Hollywood.
Universal Pictures has announced that tickets for “Minions & Monsters” are now available ahead of the film’s opening in Philippine cinemas on June 30.
The upcoming animated movie expands Illumination’s universe with a new story centered on the beloved yellow troublemakers, along with new characters and a fresh Hollywood-inspired adventure.
A New Minions Adventure in Old Hollywood
“Minions & Monsters” follows a different tribe of Minions as they search for a new evil boss.
Their journey leads them to 1920s Hollywood, where they discover something unexpected: movies.
The setting gives the film room to play with silent cinema, physical comedy, and the early magic of filmmaking, which naturally fits the Minions’ expressive and chaotic style.
Pierre Coffin Takes the Director’s Chair
The film is directed by Pierre Coffin, who co-directed four films in the franchise and has voiced the Minions across all films.
“Minions & Monsters” marks Coffin’s first solo directorial turn in the series.
The concept came from Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri, who imagined a Minions story built around the idea of the characters trying to make a monster movie.
Coffin said the idea immediately felt right because the Minions have always served someone else’s dream, but this story allows them to discover one of their own.
Comedy Built Around Movie Magic
Coffin developed the screenplay with Brian Lynch, who also wrote “Minions” and shares story credit on “Minions: The Rise of Gru.”
The creative team leaned into the humor of the Minions trying to understand cinema while causing their usual brand of lovable disorder.
Meledandri described the film as a personal project for Coffin and a celebration of the magic of making movies.
He said the Minions’ use of performance and physical comedy makes them well-suited to a story set during the early days of cinema.
