The 3rd ASEAN Battery Technology Conference (ABTC) concluded on 29 August 2025 in Phuket, Thailand. The event gathered over 340 participants from across ASEAN, including policymakers, researchers, and industry leaders. Organized by the Thailand Energy Storage Technology Association (TESTA) and five partner organizations, the conference focused on advancing safe and sustainable batteries in the region.
Keynote speakers included Nobel Laureate Prof. Stanley Whittingham, Prof. Shirley Meng of the University of Chicago and Argonne, and experts from Indonesia’s NCSTT, NanoMalaysia, and the Singapore Battery Consortium. The sessions covered breakthroughs in metal-air systems, anode-free batteries, and strategies for resilient supply chains.
Dr. Pimpa Limthongkul of TESTA emphasized ASEAN’s role in shaping the global battery ecosystem. Dr. Sing Yang Chiam from the Singapore Battery Consortium highlighted safety as the cornerstone of scaling battery deployment. NanoMalaysia CEO Dr. Rezal Khairi Bin Ahmad stressed the importance of cross-border collaboration in driving industry growth.
Exhibitions and networking activities showcased new technologies, while discussions centered on circular value chains, battery passports, and financing models. The closing ceremony included a symbolic hand-over to Malaysia, host of ABTC 2026 in Penang.
The conference demonstrated ASEAN’s united commitment to building sustainable, safe, and collaborative pathways for energy storage. By linking innovation, safety, and investment, ABTC 2025 has set the momentum for cleaner energy transitions in the region.
