Mobile app with send and request remittance features debuts in PH
Western Union has introduced its Western Union mobile app in the Philippines, making the country the first global market to offer both send and request remittance functions in a single platform.
The app allows users to send money abroad seamlessly while enjoying competitive FX rates. Through Western Union’s vast financial network, consumers gain access to billions of bank accounts, millions of digital wallets and cards, and hundreds of thousands of retail locations for cash payout. Payments can be made securely online using the national QR code payment method, QR Ph.
The app also lets users request funds from senders based in the U.S., Australia, Singapore, the UK, and other countries with large Filipino communities. Receivers in the Philippines can choose how to access their money: cash pickup, direct bank deposit, or transfer to a digital wallet. They can even redirect incoming funds to their preferred account. Transfers can be tracked in-app using the Money Transfer Control Number (MTCN).
“Today’s launch marks an important milestone in our effort to serve consumers in the Philippines better and connect them to their families and loved ones across the world,” said Gregory Laurent, Vice President for the Philippines, Japan, Australia, New Zealand & Pacific Islands at Western Union.
Remittances continue to play a critical role in the Philippine economy. Data from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas shows inflows reached $38 billion in 2024, the highest on record. The World Bank ranked the Philippines fourth among low- and middle-income countries for remittances last year, with the United States and Singapore as top sources.
The Western Union mobile app is now available for download on the App Store and Google Play.
