“Why now, Nicole? Please share with me, why now for you?” Sandra Bullock asked Nicole Kidman why the latter decided to return to the world of “Practical Magic.”
“Because you said yes,” answered Kidman, smiling.
Bullock and Kidman return to a world steeped in moonlit mischief and powerful ancestral magic in “Practical Magic 2,” sequel to the beloved 1998 film. In the follow-up, the Owens sisters must confront the dark curse that threatens to unravel their family once and for all in a must-see cinematic event of fun, magic and mayhem. “If I say it myself, we have great chemistry,” said Kidman.

A couple of years ago, Kidman asked Bullock if maybe it was time to make a sequel, but Bullock wasn’t sold on the idea back then. In an interview with Warner Bros. Pictures Philippines, the two talk about what made them both get on board the idea of a follow-up to the fan favorite original.
“Actually because of the fans – we actually both got our confidence with regard to –” shares Kidman.
“Social media,” chimes in Bullock.
“And the way in which people were almost demanding it,” adds Kidman.
“Asking for it,” says Bullock.
“Which was kind of lovely, like, it was in a beautiful way. And so, we listened,” finishes Kidman.

Bullock says that fans asking them to do another “Practical Magic” movie felt different and special. “You never get the opportunity to do something where people really are asking you, please do it. It’s usually us going to them saying, please like this movie. So that was unusual. And because of social media – which was relatively new to me five years ago – I didn’t understand it,” she shares. “I didn’t understand how something that no one really paid attention to when we made it the first time… Now the attention that was paid to it were those who were screaming the loudest. And we were like, well, you have to honor something like that.”
Both are extremely grateful for the opportunity to go back to that world. “I think there was a time where people would have said there’s no chance that you can do this as women,” says Kidman. “But now, where we’re at… It’s an amazing thing to have been given the chance to do this again. And do it our way and do it with love and desire, trying to really deliver something that’s impactful and super fun as well.”
Adds Bullock: “Yeah, and make you really laugh along the way, ’cause sometimes these two [their characters Sally and Gillian] can’t get out of their own way and you just have to let them. And by letting them you’re going to get some entertainment that is both like watching an accident and knowing they’ll be fine when it’s over.”
“So come with us!” says Kidman.
