Visa contactless payments are now officially live at MRT-3 stations across Metro Manila. Over 350,000 daily commuters can now enjoy a faster, safer, and fully cashless way to pay for their train fares.
Starting today, passengers can tap their Visa credit, debit, or prepaid card—or use a Visa-enabled mobile wallet—directly at the MRT-3 turnstiles. This advancement is part of a broader effort to modernize Philippine public transportation through open-loop payment systems, with key support from GCash and the Department of Transportation (DOTr).
“We’re proud to bring Visa contactless payments to MRT-3 and help modernize everyday commuting for millions of Filipinos,” said Jeff Navarro, Country Manager for Visa Philippines. “This marks a significant step in building a more connected, cashless future for public transport in the Philippines. Through our partnership with the Department of Transportation and GCash, we’re enabling faster, safer, and more seamless journeys for commuters across Metro Manila.”
Visa contactless payments offer improved convenience, allowing riders to skip ticket lines and avoid handling physical cash. With just a tap, commuters can move quickly through entry points, reducing bottlenecks during rush hours.
As the country continues to embrace financial technology and mobility innovation, this initiative reflects a growing push for inclusive, tech-driven public services. The Visa contactless payments rollout at MRT-3 is expected to encourage broader adoption of digital payment methods and contribute to a more efficient urban transit system.
