TIEZA expands tourist rest areas Philippines to improve travel comfort
TIEZA plans to build 40 new tourist rest areas in key destinations. This expands a nationwide network that aims to make travel more comfortable for you and more supportive of local communities. The move strengthens the tourism infrastructure program of TIEZA and the Department of Tourism. The goal is simple. Improve travel convenience. Raise service standards. Support local economies.
Two new sites in Kabankalan and Lingayen are ready for turnover. Twelve sites already operate under local governments. These include locations in Cebu, Palawan, Davao del Norte, Bukidnon, Bohol, Ilocos Norte, Camarines Sur, and Sultan Kudarat. These hubs help you rest, regroup, and learn the basics about each destination.
New sites are rising in Iloilo, Benguet, Pangasinan, Negros Occidental, Eastern Samar, Misamis Oriental, Tawi Tawi, Mountain Province, and Batanes. Each site follows a standard design. You get clean restrooms. You get a simple information desk. You get parking. You also see small retail spaces where local producers can showcase food, crafts, and souvenirs. This keeps money flowing within local communities.
The program earned an award in Singapore in 2024. It highlights TIEZA’s focus on sustainable tourism development. Each project uses funds from travel tax collections. When you pay travel tax, the contribution becomes infrastructure that benefits future trips. It becomes part of a long term tourism system.
These rest areas help local MSMEs. They offer a space where travelers meet community sellers. This creates income across towns and provinces. TIEZA works with LGUs to identify new sites that follow tourism circuits and road networks under the 2023 to 2028 plan.
The program is a model for shared responsibility. It strengthens collaboration between the national government, local leaders, and travelers. It sets a standard for accessible and community centered tourism.
