The Weeknd has set another record. His hit single “Blinding Lights” is now the first song in Spotify history to cross 5 billion streams. Spotify confirmed the milestone on August 31, nearly six years after the track was released in November 2019 as part of his After Hours era.
The single previously reached 4 billion streams in January 2024. On Billboard, “Blinding Lights” held the No. 1 spot on the Hot 100 for four weeks and became the first track to remain in the top 10 for a full year. It has also been certified diamond by the RIAA, cementing its legacy as one of the biggest songs of the decade.
This achievement places “Blinding Lights” in a category of its own. Its global reach, strong streaming power, and cultural impact continue to define The Weeknd’s dominance in music.
