Students in the Philippines will soon enjoy cheaper travel as the Department of Transportation (DOTr) rolls out personalized Student Beep Cards with a 50% fare discount starting September 15.
To apply, students only need to present a valid school ID or registration form at designated train stations. The card will be printed on the spot, valid for one year, and renewable every school year.
The discount covers train lines that accept Beep cards, including the MRT and LRT. DOTr urged students to apply early to avoid long queues.
This program aims to ease commuting expenses for students who depend on public transport. It is part of DOTr’s broader efforts to improve travel convenience, which include adding 300,000 new Beep cards and introducing QR code and tap card payments in select stations.
