The initiative is part of SM Cares’ advocacy for Persons with Disabilities, in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA), and the Autism Society Philippines (ASP).
“Through the SM Sensory Lab, we want every visitor to feel accepted, supported, and welcome,” said SM Supermalls President Steven Tan.
The space includes soft lighting, gentle colors, and noise-reduced areas. Visitors will find comfortable seats, tactile panels, calming toys, and sensory blankets to help reduce stress and overstimulation. The layout is clutter-free to promote relaxation and safety.
Admission is free and open to both children and adults with sensory sensitivities, accompanied by a guardian or caregiver. Visual guides and schedules are available to help visitors navigate the space easily.
SM Mall of Asia will be the first to open this calming area, setting an example for inclusive malling nationwide. More SM Sensory Labs are expected to follow across other SM branches in the future.
