In honor of Philippine Environment Month 2025, SM Cares—the corporate social responsibility arm of SM Supermalls—mobilized thousands of Filipinos nationwide in a powerful display of unity and action for the planet. Through the #SMWasteFreeFuture campaign, SM Cares strengthened its long-standing commitment to sustainability by engaging communities in a series of impactful programs that promote environmental responsibility.
Throughout June 2025, SM Supermalls served as vibrant hubs for environmental advocacy. Kicking off with World Bicycle Day, 26 SM malls hosted community bike rides and cycling events, promoting greener mobility and sustainable living. These gatherings weren’t just about bicycles—they were about shared purpose, healthier lifestyles, and reducing carbon footprints, all pushing forward the mission of an #SMWasteFreeFuture.
In celebration of World Oceans Day, 18 SM malls led massive coastal and river cleanups in partnership with the DENR, LGUs, youth organizations, and corporate partners. The cleanup drives gathered over 5,000 volunteers and removed more than 30,000 kilograms of waste from shorelines and waterways—proving that a cleaner environment is achievable when communities act together for an #SMWasteFreeFuture.
To cap off the month-long campaign, SM Cares extended its advocacy through cultural and educational activities. These included green film showings, a unique bike-hike-plant activity in collaboration with DENR Region 5, and the Kalikharawan youth event at SM City Lipa. Additionally, a youth film competition and nationwide SDG forum encouraged active participation in sustainability efforts.
“These efforts reflect our deep commitment to help build a culture of sustainability in every community we serve,” said Engr. Liza Silerio, SM Cares Program Director for Environment. “An #SMWasteFreeFuture isn’t just a goal—it’s a responsibility we proudly share.”
By aligning with multiple United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, SM Cares proves that true progress lies in collective effort. With every bike ride, cleanup drive, and educational initiative, they inspire Filipinos to take charge of their environmental future—one small act at a time.
