A delivery rider was spotted battling floodwaters to save his submerged bike in Manila. The incident took place on August 22 under the LRT-1 Pedro Gil Station, where knee-deep waters had taken over the streets.
TikTok user Junel Collamat captured the scene, showing the rider trying to keep his motorcycle upright while flood currents pushed against it. Collamat used the song “Upuan” by Gloc 9 and Jeazell Grutas, highlighting the contrast between those in power and ordinary citizens facing daily struggles.
Before the bike was submerged, Collamat said the rider had leaned it against a post to take shelter from heavy rains around 11 a.m. A bus then passed, creating strong waves that flooded the vehicle.
The clip included the hashtag “#floodcontrol,” echoing ongoing discussions on the country’s flood problems. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has flagged contractors handling flood control projects, pointing out that 6,021 out of 9,855 projects since 2022 lacked clear details. He raised the issue again in his fourth State of the Nation Address in July.

In the comments, TikTok user Jonas Rodriguez identified himself as the rider in the video. Collamat later shared that he was able to talk to Rodriguez through a video call, adding that many people are now offering help to him.
