The amount formed part of the company’s ₱2.86 billion in total claims and benefits paid last year across 13,599 approved claims.
According to Pru Life UK, cancer accounted for the largest share of critical illness claims, representing 58% of total critical illness payouts or ₱329.93 million.
Stroke followed with ₱96.67 million in claims, while heart attack claims reached ₱56.42 million. Renal failure and brain tumours were also among the top causes of critical illness claims.
“The claims we pay provide a real-time picture of the risks that Filipino families face every day,” said Kristine De Monteverde, Senior Vice President and Chief Operations Officer of Pru Life UK.
De Monteverde said every claim represents a customer or family dealing with unexpected health, financial, or personal challenges.
Beyond critical illness benefits, Pru Life UK paid ₱1.78 billion in death benefits to beneficiaries of 1,884 policyholders. These payouts helped families manage financial needs following the loss of a loved one.
The company also released ₱142.31 million in living benefits covering hospitalization, accidents, disability, medical reimbursement, and other healthcare-related needs.
The figures highlight the continuing impact of serious illnesses such as cancer and cardiovascular diseases on household finances.
Treatment for major conditions can lead to high out-of-pocket expenses, income disruption, and long recovery periods, making financial protection increasingly important for many Filipino families.
