Philippines to welcome the world for 2029 FIVB Women’s World Championship
The Philippines has secured the hosting rights for the 2029 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship, marking another milestone for the country’s rising volleyball scene.
The announcement came at the conclusion of the Men’s World Championship held at the Mall of Asia Arena. FIVB president Fabio Azevedo and Brazilian volleyball legend Leila Barros revealed the news before thousands of fans who witnessed the Italy-Bulgaria men’s final.
“Thank you very much for your warm welcome. Thank you for hosting the best world championships ever. But now, when you’re thinking that we’re going to the end, we have an amazing surprise,” said Azevedo.
Barros, now a senator in Brazil, shared the honor of unveiling the surprise. Her presence brought nostalgia to longtime fans who remembered her decorated career. The announcement was met with loud cheers as Filipino fans celebrated another global event coming to Manila.
The 2029 edition will see the Alas Pilipinas women’s team showcase their skills on home soil. It also cements the country’s position as a top destination for world-class volleyball tournaments after successfully staging the Men’s World Championship.
This hosting is expected to bring heightened interest in women’s volleyball, inspire a new wave of athletes, and strengthen the Philippines’ reputation as a competitive hub for the sport.
