The Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP) has officially announced the 13th Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit (PEVS) in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. EVAP President Edmund Araga expressed optimism that EV adoption will continue to grow as more Filipinos shift to sustainable mobility.
EV sales have surged. In 2024, sales of 4-wheeled EVs nearly tripled to 3,880 units, a 277.5 percent increase from 2023. Battery electric vehicles (BEVs) made up 75 percent, hybrids 23 percent, and plug-in hybrids 2 percent. Sales of 2- and 3-wheeled EVs also soared to 43,441 units in 2024 from only 172 the previous year, with 2-wheeled EVs making up the majority.
Charging Network Expands
The Comprehensive Roadmap for the Electric Vehicle Industry (CREVI) is pushing for 7,300 EV charging stations nationwide by 2028. From just 300 in 2023, the number grew to 992 by 2025. By 2040, the goal is 20,400 stations to support an estimated 2.5 million EVs. Major mall operators lead in installations, with SM Supermalls hosting 69, Ayala Malls with 31, Megaworld with 5, and Robinsons with 4. Cebu, Davao, and Bicol also host growing numbers of public charging stations.
Stronger Support Measures
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr inaugurated the country’s first lithium battery factory in Tarlac in 2024. Operated by StB Giga Factory Inc, the plant will produce batteries for up to 18,000 EVs annually by 2030. Meanwhile, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) proposed the Electric Vehicle Incentive Strategy (EVIS), expected to generate P11.4 trillion in economic output and 680,000 jobs. Both measures build on the Electric Vehicle Development Act (EVIDA) of 2022.
Araga noted that sustained government support for charging infrastructure, local manufacturing, and battery technology will drive continuous growth. “It is high time to shift to EV. There are now more choices for Filipinos,” he said.
