The Office of the Presidential Adviser on Poverty Alleviation (OPAPA), the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), and GCash joined forces with over 100 small business founders to host Sumakses!, a three-part webinar series designed to empower grassroots entrepreneurship.
Streamed on OPAPA’s Facebook page, the series highlighted case studies from MSME founders who started with limited resources and have since grown into thriving enterprises. Each episode included a financial literacy segment that introduced practical tools to help entrepreneurs sustain their ventures.
GCash supported the program by featuring Joseph “Chippy” Dimayuga, its customer success partnerships manager, who discussed MSME-focused services like GLoan, GSave, GInvest, and GCash for Business. These digital tools aim to help entrepreneurs not just earn but also manage, grow, and protect their income.
“Poverty alleviation must begin at the grassroots level. We believe in equipping Filipinos not just with livelihood but with lasting capability,” said OPAPA Secretary Lorenzo “Larry” Gadon.
MSMEs make up 99.5% of registered businesses in the country and employ over 63% of the workforce, according to the DTI. Yet many still face barriers to digital adoption and financial education. Sumakses! bridges this gap by offering both entrepreneurial inspiration and inclusive financial solutions.
Through this partnership, OPAPA, DTI, and GCash emphasize that long-term poverty alleviation depends on self-reliance, financial inclusion, and enterprise development.
