Healthy snacking recommendations for Filipino adults
Mondelēz International has joined forces with the Department of Science and Technology-Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI) to create healthy snacking guidelines tailored for Filipino adults aged 19-59. A memorandum of agreement was signed on September 25, 2025, with Mondelēz Managing Director Aleli Arcilla and DOST-FNRI Director III & OIC, Office of the Director, Atty. Lucieden G. Raz, leading the partnership.
Arcilla emphasized the company’s advocacy for mindful snacking, which promotes eating with attention and intention. “This engagement is a milestone in support of our advocacy to snack mindfully. With this study and its eventual promotion, we look forward to helping foster healthier snacking habits and improving the well-being of the Filipino people,” she said.
The 2024 State of Philippine Snacking report revealed that 98% of Filipinos snack at least once daily, higher than the global average. Despite the frequency, 99% already engage in mindful snacking, with 92% saying they appreciate snacks more when consumed mindfully. Portion control also matters, with 80% preferring snacks in smaller servings, while 91% combine snacks with healthier food options.
Through Mondelēz’s financial support, DOST-FNRI will research local snacking habits and recommend evidence-based guidelines. These will cover caloric needs and nutritional quality, helping integrate snacks into a balanced daily diet.
“This undertaking with Mondelēz International will help support a better understanding of Filipino snacking behaviors to provide comprehensive guidance on how they should consume their snacks,” said Atty. Raz.
The study begins in September 2025 and aims to shape healthier eating habits for millions of Filipino adults.
