Mitsubishi Motors PH Monozukuri Competition Showcases Filipino Technical Excellence on the Global Stage
Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) is gearing up for the 8th Global Monozukuri Skill Competition in Japan this October 2025. The company’s top manufacturing technicians, who emerged as winners in the local skills contest held last May, are now undergoing a three-month intensive training at the MMPC plant in Santa Rosa, Laguna.
The competition, organized by Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC), gathers participants from Japan, the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Taiwan, and Vietnam. Seven categories will be contested, including welding, painting, assembly, tooling, stamping, maintenance, and logistics.
Monozukuri, the Japanese philosophy of “the art of making things,” focuses on mastery, efficiency, and continuous improvement. MMPC President and CEO Ritsu Imaeda said the event goes beyond showcasing skills, reflecting the collaboration between Filipino craftsmanship and Japanese precision.
“When our technicians perform on the world stage, they show how partnership and discipline create excellence. This competition uplifts not only MMPC but also the entire Philippine automotive industry,” Imaeda said.
Sergio Castro, Manager for Production Strategy, leads the training. He said the program strengthens MMPC’s position as a globally competitive manufacturing hub.
Participants shared how the experience sharpened their technical and mental resilience. Welding representative Mark Bagnes said the key was overcoming pressure through practice before crowds. Maintenance delegate Andrew Atienza noted that learning to perform under pressure builds confidence and professionalism.
For others, the competition is a source of pride. Assembly representative Mark Anthony Arcenal and Tooling representative Rommel Dalusung said they aim to inspire others in their communities. Logistics participant Nelson Ojoy added that joining the event is “an investment in self-growth.”
The team departs for Japan on October 24, 2025, ready to represent the Philippines in Nagoya.
