Building future-ready leaders with ethical AI integration
Mapúa Malayan Colleges Laguna (Mapúa MCL) is positioning itself at the forefront of AI-driven education with programs that balance technological innovation and ethical responsibility. Through the E.T. Yuchengco College of Business (ETYCB) and its collaboration with Arizona State University (ASU), the institution is preparing students for leadership roles in a global digital economy.
Recent findings from the 2024 Digital Education Council Global Student Survey highlight how AI is reshaping education. About 86% of students worldwide now use AI tools, with 54% engaging with them weekly. Popular tools include ChatGPT, Grammarly, and Microsoft Copilot, often used for paraphrasing and drafting. This rapid adoption underscores the urgency for schools to integrate AI responsibly.
ETYCB faculty member Jameson Bagay explained that AI is not about replacing human intelligence but augmenting it. “At Mapúa MCL, we believe AI empowers leaders to make smarter decisions, educators to personalize learning, and students to build skills fit for the digital economy,” he said.
UNESCO-aligned curriculum
The college follows UNESCO’s AI competency framework, which focuses on ethical AI use, human-centered design, and professional development. Mapúa MCL programs teach students to apply AI in real-world decision-making while tackling issues like algorithmic bias, privacy, and accountability.
Preparing educators for AI-supported teaching
Faculty members are trained to act as facilitators rather than mere lecturers. This shift includes guiding students in evaluating AI-generated content and ensuring responsible use of technology. Mapúa MCL provides continuous professional development and access to global best practices, reinforcing UNESCO’s call for agile, responsible integration of new technologies.
Future-ready graduates
Graduates of ETYCB emerge not just job-ready but future-ready. They are trained to adapt to disruption, lead responsibly, and advocate ethical innovation in business and society. “Technology is only as good as the humans who shape it,” Bagay emphasized.
By embedding ethics and innovation in its curriculum, Mapúa MCL ensures that its students are prepared to lead in an AI-driven world with integrity and foresight.
