Manila Water is building an earthquake-resilient San Juan Reservoir to strengthen water security in Quezon City, San Juan, and Mandaluyong. The ₱932-million project along N. Domingo Street in Quezon City will store up to 56 million liters of water and withstand earthquakes up to magnitude 7.2. This ensures reliable supply even during major seismic events.
Modern Design for Growing Cities
The new facility replaces the original 1968 reservoir. It includes modern electrical, mechanical, and site development systems. These upgrades highlight Manila Water’s commitment to resilient infrastructure that can support the increasing demand for clean water.
Progress and Timeline
As of July 2025, the project is 26.90% complete and remains on track for full completion by the third quarter of 2026. Current activities include excavation, lean concreting, and foundation rebar installation. Acoustic barriers were also set up to reduce noise and limit construction disruptions for nearby communities.
Long-Term Water Security
Jeric Sevilla, Communication Affairs Group Director of Manila Water, said the project is more than just a facility upgrade. It is an investment in resilience and reliability to secure water supply for growing urban communities. Once completed, the San Juan Reservoir will play a vital role in Manila Water’s broader strategy to expand and safeguard water infrastructure across the East Zone.
