Manila Water Expands Renewable Energy Use Under ERC Retail Aggregation Program

Manila Water Retail Aggregation Program powers 56 more facilities with renewable energy

Manila Water continues to expand its renewable energy use by shifting 56 more facilities to the Energy Regulatory Commission’s Retail Aggregation Program (RAP). The move highlights the company’s commitment to sustainability and innovation in energy sourcing.

The new facilities include 10 from Laguna Water, 45 from Estate Water operating across Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Metro Manila, and Manila Water Foundation’s La Mesa Ecopark. The ecopark is now the first and largest of its kind to be fully powered by renewable energy under RAP. Altogether, these facilities represent a total electricity demand of 1,682 kW.

The transition was marked by a RAP switching ceremony at La Mesa Ecopark, the fourth such event for Manila Water this year.

ERC Director for Market Operations Service Sharon Montaner praised the initiative, saying it empowers consumers and fosters competition in the energy sector. “By aggregating demand and leveraging supply options, Manila Water is paving the way for a more inclusive and resilient energy market,” Montaner said. She added that RAP participation has grown by 70% since Manila Water’s first switching in February 2025, outpacing the growth of the Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA) framework.

Key officials from the ERC, MWSS, Meralco, PrimeRES Energy, IEMOP, and Quezon City Government attended the ceremony.

Manila Water President and CEO Jocot De Dios emphasized that the initiative strengthens accountability and efficiency. “This is about the power of choice. We now have 214 facilities under RAP, helping us manage costs and improve service to our customers,” he said.

Under the enhanced RAP framework, PrimeRES Energy supplies power through Meralco’s distribution network. Manila Water’s total aggregated demand now reaches 11 MW.

Earlier this year, Manila Water became the first in the country to transition multiple wastewater facilities under RAP, followed by switches in Laguna and Boracay. Each step reinforces its vision to drive sustainability, efficiency, and energy independence across its operations.
