Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 powers HONOR Magic8 Pro with advanced AI
HONOR has given an early look at its upcoming flagship, the Magic8 Pro, which is set to debut next month in China. The phone shows off a light teal finish that resembles the Jade Cyan shade from the HONOR X9c. It sports a more squared frame with rounded edges and a familiar HONOR-style camera bump. A new extra button on the right side hints at added camera controls, similar to what the iPhone 16 series introduced.
The Magic8 series runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 platform, bringing several AI-first technologies. Among them are Low-Bit Quantization for more efficient on-device AI modeling and Next-Generation Hybrid Retrieval, which improves how devices process text, images, and multimedia. These innovations promise up to 15% higher AI compute, 20% lower power consumption, and 30% less storage use compared to past HONOR models. Retrieval performance is expected to jump by as much as 400%, making searches and responses faster across real-world scenarios.
At the Snapdragon Summit China, HONOR also introduced Magic Color, its first agent-powered AI tool for creative tasks. With a single command, users can restyle photos or videos by extracting and applying key tones. This is designed to give non-professional users access to pro-level editing. HONOR says it will extend these AI-driven features to thousands of scenarios across major apps.
For gamers, HONOR showcased its Hyper-Fusion Core Architecture built with Qualcomm, boosting efficiency by coordinating CPU, GPU, and NPU resources. A new GPU-NPU Heterogeneous AI Super Sampling Technology allows smoother, high-frame-rate gaming, turning 60fps gameplay into 120fps at 1080p with real-time AI reconstruction of details, lighting, and motion.
These advancements mark HONOR’s entry into what it calls the Dual-Engine Era, where AI-driven features and system performance merge to create faster, more efficient, and more intelligent devices.
