Globe laser broadband expansion pushes faster, cable free connectivity
Globe is bringing faster connectivity to more communities as it expands the use of laser technology for broadband and 5G. The company now uses Free Space Optics, also known as FSO, to move data through laser beams. This removes the need for cables. This also shortens deployment time for high speed connections.
Globe works with Transcelestial, a Singapore based tech company. Together, they plan to bring this solution to more areas nationwide. FINSI, Globe’s shared services arm, leads the rollout. The goal is simple. Build reliable and fast internet links where traditional fiber installation slows down progress.
FSO sends data through the air using laser light. You get fiber like speeds without digging up roads. This helps Globe reach locations that are hard to wire. Communities in islands, dense urban zones, and developing towns benefit from quick and stable connections.
The partnership started in August 2025. Globe and Transcelestial agreed to use Centauri laser devices across the Philippines. These devices support last mile connectivity. They support mobile backhaul. They support event based network needs. Globe tested them in Visayas and Mindanao. Results showed consistent performance. During major events at the Philippine Arena in 2024, the technology supported high demand with smooth connectivity.
Globe plans to test Legolas long distance laser links next. These links can transmit data up to 15 kilometers. Full tests run in 2026. Once approved, they will improve network transport across larger areas.
Globe now counts FSO as a standard part of its network. Gerhard P. Tan, Senior Director and Head of Technology Strategy and Innovations, confirmed this shift. Globe now uses FSO beside fiber. This helps the company build its 5G and broadband systems faster.
Why FSO matters for you
You get faster installation.
You get multi gigabit speeds comparable to fiber.
You get strong connections in areas that are hard to reach.
Globe continues to invest in new tools. You get better support for cloud apps. You get improved 5G coverage. You get more reliable broadband at home and in public spaces.
