SMS Scam Shield boosts user protection against phishing
Globe has introduced SMS Scam Shield on the GlobeOne app to help protect customers from the rise of text-based scams. The feature is currently free for Android users. It works by scanning suspicious messages on the user’s device and alerting them through push notifications.
Scammers often use spoofed sender IDs like Globe, GCash or banks to trick people into clicking malicious links. SMS Scam Shield detects fake sender names such as “GLOBE,” “GLOBEREWARD,” or “GCASH” and flags messages with phishing links. Globe clarified that the feature runs fully on-device, ensuring privacy by not storing SMS messages.
Since its launch, over 34,000 users have enabled the feature. More than 13,000 phishing messages have already been identified and blocked. Globe also encourages customers to report suspicious texts through https://www.globe.com.ph/stop-spam to help strengthen its defenses.
“SMS Scam Shield is our way of giving customers more control and peace of mind. With this built-in protection, users are alerted when they receive suspicious messages that may contain dangerous links or impersonate Globe-affiliated brands,” said Coco Domingo, Globe Product Experience Vice President.
SMS Scam Shield is part of Globe’s broader digital safety efforts. It complements ongoing cybersecurity initiatives and lays the groundwork for future AI-powered threat detection.
Globe encourages Android users to activate the feature through the GlobeOne app. To turn it on, go to “Profile,” then select “Security Settings.”
